EMJ Special Projects is a specialized business unit within EMJ’s family of companies that provides clients with the individualized service and flexibility of a small firm with the stability and resources of EMJ Construction.

Founded in 2009, Special Projects focuses on quick turnaround, unique builds, and programmatic work. The team maintains a diverse portfolio of construction projects ranging from innovative office spaces and single tenant retail to medical facilities and historic renovations.

Special Projects delivers exceptional client experiences through collaboration and transparency and offers clients a personalized approach tailored to their project needs and long-term growth strategies.

Our Leadership

Chas Torrence

Chas Torrence

Chas oversees and directs the day-to-day operations of EMJ Special Projects. His 15 years of construction experience in a variety of roles, including estimator, project manager and construction manager, serves as a valuable resource to all departments within Special Projects.  Chas earned a bachelor’s degree in construction science and management from Clemson University, and in 2017, he was named both a Top Young Professional by Engineering News-Record and among the International Council of Shopping Centers’ Top 40 Under 40. Chas serves on the Board of Directors for East Tennessee’s chapter of Make-a-Wish, and he is Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Miracle League of Chattanooga.

Howard Smith

Howard has over 45 years of experience and approximately $1 billion worth of projects under his belt. As Vice President of Construction, Howard provides leadership and management to the operations team on special projects in a variety of sectors to ensure that every client, partner and colleague receives an innovative and customized construction experience. He leads the planning, coordination and execution of EMJ’s Concept-to-Completion approach and bolsters his team to deliver unique value on all projects.

Greg Everett

A 20-year EMJ veteran, Greg leads the Special Project team’s preconstruction efforts on all projects, including general oversight, planning, conceptualizing, budgeting, bidding and design coordination. He provides technical expertise and assists in the review of all bid documents, constructability reviews, project scheduling, budgeting and help oversee C2C project teams. As a senior leader, he also helps communicate and champion EMJ’s strategy and foundation.

Robert Streko

As National Account Executive, Bob focuses on building EMJ’s healthcare portfolio for EMJ Special Projects. His responsibilities include creating a healthcare network of opportunities, while addressing client needs, offering problem-solving solutions both creatively and strategically, and always looking for ways to facilitate value generation, for all involved.

Bob joined EMJ in 2017 and has more than 20 years of business development experience in corporate and commercial real estate.

Robert lives in Forsyth County, Ga. with his wife and their three children. A former D1 baseball player for Seton Hall University, Robert enjoys coaching youth sports and cheering on his favorite team, the Boston Red Sox.

Cindy DeLoach

Based in EMJ’s Dallas office, Cindy manages and organizes national pursuits, events and meetings for the business development team. She primarily focuses on building healthcare relationships for EMJ Special Projects’ team.

Cindy joined EMJ in 2016 and has nearly a decade of healthcare business development experience. She received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Kansas State University. She is involved in her community, volunteering with her church, Young Men’s Service League and fundraising for Coppell’s lacrosse board.

Cindy lives in Coppell, Texas and has two children. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and spending time with friends and family.
