Hurricane Matthew impacts Florida projects

Our thoughts and prayers are with residents as Hurricane Matthew, a Category 4 storm, reaches the southern Atlantic coast.
As 1.5 million residents headed to safety, EMJ sent our teams home from impacted jobsites.
The past several days were filled with severe weather procedures in preparation for Matthew. Project teams secured trailers, removed and secured loose materials, protected buildings with shutters and plywood, and covered and secured equipment.
“We erred on the side of caution and prepared for the worst, following all hurricane preparation guidelines and closing the site down late Wednesday,” said Steven Anderson, Project Manager on EMJ Hospitality’s Residence Inn in Pompano Beach.

All EMJ Hospitality, EMJ Construction and Accent Construction jobsites in eastern Florida were closed as of early Thursday. Some were able to reopen as the storm passed on Friday.

“We expect some jobsites to remain closed through the weekend,” said Jack Bowen, Vice President of Construction. “We’ll assess any damages and impact on the projects upon reopening.”

Four of EMJ Construction’s projects, Skyview Plaza, Lee Vista Promenade and two Bass Pro Shops, are directly in the line of the hurricane along with four EMJ Hospitality and two Accent Construction projects.

Employees of EMJ and the family of companies continue to keep those in the storm’s path in our prayers during this time of fear and uncertainty, and we hope for the best.
