Special Projects to build High Point Climbing in Memphis
EMJ Special Projects will break ground on the much-anticipated High Point Climbing and Fitness gym in Memphis, Tenn., next month.
The unique, 32,000-square-foot facility will include several indoor climbing walls up to 50 feet tall, a 40-foot outdoor wall, and a kids climbing area. Designed by PV Design, Inc., the gym will also offer a cardio room, weight room, and spaces for yoga and spin classes.
“Our team is really excited about this project,” said Kevin Lloyd, Senior Preconstruction Manager, EMJ Special Projects. “We’re currently working with the rest of the project team to analyze the drawings and finalize material and design choices to ensure that we’re bringing the most value to the project.”
Aided by the EMJ Construction Technology department, the project team is using building information modeling (BIM) to detect clashes and estimate material quantities. BIM allows the team to build the project virtually using 3D modeling, which enables them to identify obstacles and mitigate any issues early to ensure efficient construction.
Based in Chattanooga, Tenn., High Point Climbing in Memphis will be the climbing gym’s fourth location, with a fifth planned for Huntsville, Ala. Construction is expected to be completed in October 2018.
“You don’t get to build indoor climbing walls and facilities with 50-plus foot ceilings everyday,” said Kevin. “We love what High Point is about and are excited to help bring this unique attraction to another community.”
