EMJ’s leaders took some time at our annual Summit meeting in Austin, Texas to recognize some of our outstanding employees. The Jolley Awards, named in honor of Edgar M. Jolley, Sr., who founded EMJ in 1968, recognize employees of EMJ Construction for exemplary performance and contributions to EMJ.
Outstanding Servant Leadership:
The Jolley for Outstanding Servant Leadership is EMJ’s recognition of an individual who exemplifies servant leadership as defined by EMJ’s core values. Employees are nominated for this award by office leadership, and recipients are selected by the Jolley committee. The recipient of the Jolley for Outstanding Servant Leadership meets the following criteria:
- Leads by example
- Inspires and serves others
- Exhibits EMJ’s core values
The recipient of the Jolley for Outstanding Servant Leadership is Faith Crissman. Her performance in 2021 was nothing short of amazing. Faith was instrumental in the cataloging and distribution of the Standard of Excellence. She works tirelessly on an array of special projects, in addition to her normal responsibilities.
The Dallas Office wouldn’t be the same without Faith Crissman at the ready. She is selfless, dedicated to EMJ and set’s a high standard for work performance at EMJ.

The Jolley for Outstanding Performance is EMJ’s most prestigious individual award. Employees are nominated for this award by office leadership, and recipients are selected by the Jolley committee. The recipients of the Jolley for Outstanding Performance meets the following criteria:
- Improved performance and/or range of responsibility
- Exhibited strong work ethic resulting in accurate and timely outcomes
- Developed junior team members
- Exemplified servant leadership within his/her team
- Demonstrated initiative and creativity in tackling difficult or unusual challenges
The recipient of the Jolley for Outstanding Performance is Erick Perez. Erick has been instrumental in the development of Procore testing, procedures, and reports. He has gone out of his way to help with the Dallas office remodel. He is passionate about his projects which in turn makes his work stand out, he is a great communicator, problem solver, very thorough, precise, and truly cares about people and the company. Erick is a man who loves his job, coworkers and EMJ.
Outstanding Jobsite Safety:
The Jolley for Outstanding Jobsite Safety recognizes jobsites that exemplify outstanding attentional to detail and procedures. The recipients the Jolley for Outstanding Jobsite Safety meet the following criteria:
- Individual attitude and behavior toward safety
- Ability to plan ahead and foresee potential mishaps and intervene
- Ability to engage others in safe behavior and practices
- Ability to have a clean and organized jobsite
- Ability to manage difficult subcontractors
- Ability to maintain documentation that is accurate, well-written and timely
- Ability to change the culture and/or attitudes of others towards a more safety-conscious mindset
The recipient of the Jolley for Outstanding Jobsite Safety is Taylor Copeland.
Taylor is proactive in the area of safety. He performed well while dealing with COVID, OSHA compliance officers, and achieved his STSC certification, a certification intended for leaders at all levels whose goal is safer construction worksites.

The Jolley for Outstanding Project is EMJ’s highest recognition of a project team. This award is given to one project team each year. Project teams are nominated for this award by office leadership, and recipients are selected by the Jolley committee. The recipients of the Jolley for Outstanding Project meets the following criteria:
- Client Experience
- Staff turnover
The recipient of the Jolley for Outstanding Project is the BassPro Shop Morgantown WV. This project was very successful with minimal issues throughout construction. The project team demonstrated agility and a commitment to quality and delivering an exceptional client experience. The project turned over with no punch list and looks fantastic.
