EMJ employees gathered last week at the Omni Resort at Championsgate in Orlando, Fla. for EMJ Construction’s annual Summer Summit event focusing on its mission, values, and what it means to “Be the standard.” Medal of Honor recipient Staff Sergeant David G. Bellavia joined the Summer Summit Employee Awards Dinner as the honored guest speaker.
Staff Sergeant Bellavia distinguished himself by acts of gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty on November 10, 2004, while serving as a squad leader in support of Operation Phantom Fury in Fallujah, Iraq. He was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Donald Trump at the White House on June 25, 2019, surrounded by his family and every living member of his Task Force.
David shared his thoughts about service above self, character, teamwork, leadership, and empowerment. It provided great clarity to EMJ’s purpose, to be people serving people.
“It was a real honor for Staff Sergeant Bellavia join us,” said Jack Bowen, President, EMJ Construction. “No one is more qualified to discuss our values, and being selfless, trustworthy, and gritty. David is a hero. We will do well to listen to the lessons he shared and to humbly serve others.”
