Parkway Place

Overview

The Parkway Place mall consists of approximately 656,000 square feet of retail and dining tenants resting on a 33-acre site. Originally constructed in 1957 and later renovated in 1974, the renovation and expansion of this regional mall meets the needs and growth of Huntsville, Ala. EMJ performed decision phase services alongside the architect and design team. EMJ assisted the developer in determining that a new mall needed to be constructed to replace the aging center. Some tenants' requirement that new facilities be constructed prior to vacating existing spaces necessitated a careful sequencing of construction. Other tenants required they stay open during the entire construction timeline. Therefore, the project was dependent upon EMJ safely demolishing portions of the existing mall, constructing a new two-story facility where only a one-story mall once stood, and maintaining safe mall traffic for all patrons.
