The US Xpress, Inc. corporate headquarters is a three-story, 104,000-square-foot facility located on approximately 30 acres. EMJ completed all site work in addition to constructing the unique three-sided “gull-wing” structure. Situated on the side of a large hill, the site required excavating, extensive surcharging of the building pad, and solving the global stability issues at the terraced slopes.
The building is supported by a structural steel frame and clad with a metal panel and glass curtain wall system with a precast stone base. The interior features high-end finishes such as granite, marble, wood paneling, custom metal works and etched glass. The lobby ceiling is 68 feet high with a striking, floating three-level staircase. The building houses state of the art communications, computer systems and fiber optics, which required extensive coordination of electrical plans, data and communication plans and proprietary vendors. The project was fast-tracked with site work commencing prior to completion of the building shell and interior design.
After completion of the corporate headquarters, EMJ was asked to complete a two-level, 52,000-square-foot addition on a 42-acre site adjacent to the headquarters. The addition complements the design of the corporate headquarters and houses the company’s communication and data systems.
